Learn to Draw Bootleg Bart Simpson

To draw bootleg Bart Simpson, you will need the following:

  • Pencil (For a rough outline I suggest mechanical pencils)
  • Paper (For conceiving your brilliant custom "Bootleg Bart")
  • Eraser (To get rid of ugly pencil marks)
  • Micron pen (Archival ink)
  • Zip-lock bag (To keep pen nibs dry)

One Eye To Rule Them All

To get started drawing your bootleg Bart Simpson, begin with the eye. Draw a circle. This simple circle is a great way to gauge the size of your bootleg Bart or just to create a skeleton of points.

Step 1: Draw the Left Eye

To create Bootleg Bart's eye, draw a simple circle. This circle will gauge the size of your Bootleg Bart, or it could be used at a point of destination if you want a more abstract take on everyone's favorite merry prankster.

Start your Bootleg Bart's face by drawing his other eye, nose, and lips.

Step 2: Draw the Right Eye, Nose, and Mouth

From the bottom of your circle, draw Bootleg Bart Simpson's nose by creating a horizontal down-facing J. Now you have created Bootleg Bart's eye and nose.

At the tip of the nose, make a vertical drawn lip curved into the face, creating Bootleg Bart's mouth.

Add a mark at the end of his face to create his cheek, and draw a semi-circle from the top of the right eye to the tip of the nose. This will create the full facial pattern for Bootleg Bart's face.

From here you could take a more abstract approach and draw the rest of his head completely differently—to create a more personalized look and really give your Bart the true bootleg feel you're looking for.

Step 3: Draw the Head Shape, Jaw, and Neck

This part will establish the full head shape for our Bootleg Bart Simpson.

Start off by drawing at the top of Bootleg Bart's right eye. Draw a small semi-circle, and then a vertical line coming off of that.

Parallel to that, draw a line that almost curves slightly outward to create the volume for Bootleg Bart's head shape and overall head contour.

After that is done, start your next line at the middle of Bootleg Bart's top lip and draw another semi-circle and downward vertical line. You will now see your Bootleg Bart coming to life—are text bubbles of ideas popping into your mind?

Finish the rough structure of your Bootleg Bart Simpson and then ink your drawing by tweaking the original and putting your own unique spin on this wonderful classic.

Step 4: Draw the Hair, Ear, and Neck

You will finish up the structure for your Bootleg Bart Simpson by drawing the hair, ears, and neck.

Start by connecting the neck on the bottom. After you finish this, draw nine spikes of hair on Bootleg Bart's head.

Lastly, we have Bootleg Bart's ear. Draw a C shape and two curved marks on the inside of the ear to complete Bootleg Bart's full head structure.

Here we have an inked drawing of the original pencil drawing.

Step 5: Ink Your Drawing

Take your micron pen and draw over your linework, adding or changing things—because this is about making a Bootleg Bart Simpson that is unique and one-of-a-kind.

After inking, use your eraser to get rid of any pencil marks. Rub your eraser softly to not damage the ink.
